Mounts is getting parents and their young children back to the outdoors

Mounts’ birth began after founder Tim Butcher took his wife and 16-month-old daughter camping for their first post-pregnancy ‘expedition’.

This was a tester for some multi-day sites they were going to visit later that month. They bought a family-sized tent and assumed the copious gear they had amassed over the years would take care of anything else.

When they arrived at the famer’s land, he took one look at them, their pile of gear and threw them into the back of his tractor for a ride to the camp site. In hindsight, it was unlikely the transport of their huge pile of gear was going to happen on foot – a 4cm mattress, fleece PJs and Tog 3.0 sleep sack. Later, Tim found out this was not suitable for their daughter’s comfort and safety. She was freezing and let them know it!

The trip revealed the need for good, safe and efficient solutions for camping with young children. Mounts focuses exclusively on getting new parents back outdoors as soon as possible. The company aims to create the tools, apparel, gear and advice to help parents get back on the trail safer, sooner and with ease.

Since founding in 2020, and the launch of their revolutionary mounts Slumber Sack, the idea behind the brand has grown, along with their audience of young outdoor families, to find more solutions to help tired parents with babies and toddlers.

Their second product release, the Papa Pack and Diaper Duffle, aims to help outdoor families in their day-to-day activities and travel adventures – to go further, longer and with more ease. They have a solid pipeline of outdoor-focused tools, including lightweight tents, chairs, mats and harnesses, developed in consultation with young parents to bring next generation tools to existing problems.

Tim, having worked a corporate career his whole life and using all his salary/ holidays to fund his addiction to ski mountaineering expeditions, always dreamed of designing his own gear and/or outdoor-focused company.

He never imagined the opportunity to make ‘extreme’ outdoor gear would be because of his young daughter!
