Montane collaborates with Strava to encourage individuals to get outdoors this winter
British outdoor clothing brand, Montane, has collaborated with fitness tracker Strava to produce the ‘Montane 30km Winter Challenge’, a fitness challenge designed to encourage and reward individuals for getting outdoors this winter.
The challenge is accessible to individuals of all abilities and disciplines and requires participants to cover a distance of 30km in just over two weeks by either walking, running, hiking, or virtual running, while also being accessible for wheelchair users. Participants can choose to complete the challenge in one full attempt or split out across a number of sessions. Set to be published on 13th November, individuals have from 20th November through to 23:59:59 on 6th December to complete the challenge.
Those who complete the challenge will be rewarded with a Montane digital Strava badge and will automatically be entered into a draw for the chance to win a Montane waterproof jacket.
The move follows on from last year’s collaboration, titled the ‘Cheviot Goat Strava Challenge’ which gave participants just over 2 weeks to clock up 50km, with a decision made to make this year’s distance goal more accessible in order to open up the challenge to individuals of differing abilities.
Speaking on the news, Montane’s Global Marketing Manager, Matthew Hickman, commented: “Winter can notoriously be a difficult time for exercising, with cold weather and dark nights providing barriers to getting outdoors and being active throughout the season. The ‘Montane 30km Winter Challenge’ serves to change that by providing an exciting and engaging challenge that is open to runners and walkers of all abilities. The challenge promises a tough yet achievable goal with exciting rewards to be had upon completion, whether you’re training for the Montane Cheviot Goat, looking for a taster of what an ultra-run entails, or just simply looking for motivation to get moving this winter.”
Inspiration for the challenge comes from the Montane Cheviot Goat Ultra, a 55-mile ultra-run that covers the Cheviot Hills, a range of rolling hills straddling the Anglo-Scottish border. Taking place on 3rd December, the Montane Cheviot Goat Ultra race involves an ascent of 12,139ft and sees participants make their way across harsh winter trails, hills, and bogs through the Cheviots.
