Montane expands Corporate Responsibility platform
Montane has developed its ‘Further. Forever: Our Responsibility’ platform to support increased transparency, continue to lower its environmental impact, and help customers to make responsible, educated choices when purchasing outdoor kit.
In 2019, Montane’s ‘Further. Forever’ initiative outlined a pledge to protect the outdoors for future generations. For 2023, the brand has extended this pledge to capture the corporate responsibility of this initiative and to create a blueprint for the brand as it looks toward a continued responsible future.
As part of its commitment to increased transparency, Montane has launched a product table named ‘Know What You’re Buying,’ of which is an evolution of its ‘More Sustainable Choice’ initiative.
The product table, which will feature alongside 40% of the AW23 collection, provides customers with details about the origin of its products, third party accreditations and composition of the materials used. By 2025, every item sold by Montane will include this accompanying table to indicate the impact of the product, which in turn, will allow customers to make more informed purchasing choices.
Key to the progression of ‘Further. Forever: Our Responsibility’ is Montane’s ongoing adherence to a considered approach to product design and its focus on product longevity. Each item has undergone rigorous testing and has been crafted in such a way as to extend the lifetime of the product, reducing the impact associated with production and cutting down on landfill. Through its repairs service, Montane will also restore damaged items to further lengthen the garment’s lifespan for customers.
On the commitment, Montane’s Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, Anna Pitman, said: “As an outdoor brand we are directly connected to nature, and this has always been the driving force behind our pledge to protect the environment for future generations. This is a continuous journey for Montane, and this natural progression re-asserts our commitment to building on our increasingly considered approach, and in turn, helps us to provide even more transparency for our customers.
“We have implemented these additions to capture the corporate responsibility of Montane and to offer guidance for our customers so that they too can make responsible product choices.”
Additionally, Montane has pledged to work only with manufacturers that promote the rights and wellbeing of the people who make its products. The pledge is supported by commitments to both the International Accord and the Fair Wear Foundation.
In January 2024, Montane will publish its first ‘Impact Report’ as a development from the brand’s previous ‘Social Report’. This will include a comprehensive overview of the work already undertaken relating to corporate responsibility, how this supports Montane’s brand values, and the vision for what comes next.
