Nebo Big Larry 3

I started by charging the Big Larry 3, it uses a USB-3 port to charge which is covered with a tight-fitting plastic which makes it water resistant. I liked that the on button turned red to show it was not fully charged and turned green after a couple of hours, which I shall presume means it is fully charged. It is made with a solid anodised aircraft-grade aluminium body that feels as if it can take a decent hit or three. The ergonomic rubber grip is comfortable in the palm of the hand and will not easily slip out.

I do like that the pocket clip is metal rather than some cheap easily breakable plastic. The magnet at the base of the torch is extremely powerful, it can attach the torch horizontally and vertically even hanging upside down and the magnet keeps it rigidly in place. It is powered by three rechargeable AA batteries which are accessible by unscrewing the bottom section, so if you had no way of charging for a while, replacements could be carried if and when you needed them.

The Big Larry 3 has four light settings the press of the switch gives a powerful beam from the top of the torch, the second turns on the work light to a very bright white light. and I mean very bright. The third press of the on button gives a red light to the work light and the fourth press gives a red flashing light. if you hold down the on switch the torch goes straight to the continuous red mode on the work light. If you hold down the button while using any of the setting that light will dim and then slowly return to the original brightness. Removing your thumb or finger at any point in between will hold at the required luminosity. The strobe does not have a dimming capability. I can see how the red lights, both continuous and flashing could help in a motor vehicle crash or break down using either the pocket clip or the magnet at the base to attach the torch to the vehicle.

It would be great benefit for anyone going camping, I would clip this to the outside of my rucksack so it would always be at hand, and I knew where it was and could easily unclip it and use to find things in the dark. One of the uses of the work light as a general-purpose light to give illumination to a wide area inside or outside the tent. The same uses could also cover anybody going night fishing. If you are out walking the dog it can be used handheld pointing the top light away from you or clipped to a belt with the work light giving a more circular coverage.

Working underneath a vehicle can be awkward but the magnet on the Big Larry 3 means it can be attached and moved quite easily and positioned as you need, whether working from a pit or on your back. Keep in an accessible place in the home and always charged and power cuts could become less of a problem. I did get some good use from the Big Larry 3 the other night in the pub, as some of you will know in a lot of public houses they lower the lighting as the evening wears on, I was reading a hardback book and could no longer see the writing on the page so I used the work light on its lowest setting, clipped it to my shirt, and hey presto perfect reading lamp. Ok, I got a couple of weird stares but what the hell, I was not bothering anybody.

This is a great torch with many uses and retails at only £19.99, which I think is incredibly cheap for such a high-quality piece equipment. If you wish to know exact specifications of the torch along with any other information including purchasing, please refer to the Nebo website.
