EOCA Ocean Report 2020–2025 highlights five years of marine conservation

On 13 October 2026, the European Outdoor Conservation Association (EOCA) published its Ocean Report 2020–2025, highlighting five years of grassroots marine conservation.

Between 2020 and 2025, EOCA supported 15 projects in 12 countries, allocating €451,067 to marine conservation, including pollution removal, habitat restoration, coral reef recovery and wildlife protection.

Conservation in action

In Brazil, the Paddle, Clean, Teach initiative covered 963 km, removed more than three tonnes of rubbish and reached 7,500 students across 49 schools.

In the UK, Clear the Bay by Day mobilised 2,356 volunteers across 38 clean-ups, removing 36.6 tonnes of waste from the Morecambe Bay coastline.

In Zanzibar, a coral nursery grew to 42 tables, while more than 3,500 coral colonies were transplanted to degraded reefs and another 1,580 to artificial reefs.

On Boa Vista Island, Cape Verde, conservation teams recorded 21,318 loggerhead turtle nests along 15 km of monitored beach, rescued 105 nesting females and removed 5,300 kg of debris. The project reported a 70% reduction in poaching.

In India’s Nellore District, a community-led project protected 325 Olive Ridley turtle nests and worked with fishing communities on sustainable fishing gear, bycatch and marine litter.

Communities at the heart of conservation

EOCA says the projects demonstrate how local conservation organisations, students, volunteers, fishers and businesses can work together to restore marine habitats and protect wildlife.
