Leifur Örn Svavarsson

66°North was a key partner in the development and launch of one of the most innovative fabric technologies of the last decade. When Polartec® developed NeoShell® in 2011, they engaged with 66°North and Leifur Örn Svavarsson to test the technology in the extremely demanding conditions of Iceland. Following this process, 66°North introduced the Snæfell jacket, among the first jackets to feature the technology. It remains one of the brand’s best-selling shell jackets today.
Leifur is one of Iceland’s most experienced guides, with 35 years of experience in the field. Throughout his career as an outdoor and adventure guide, he has guided expeditions to Mt. Everest, as well as all seven continental summits, and led ski expeditions to both the North and South Poles. Leifur is the first person in the world to complete a double Adventure Grand Slam climbing the Seven Summits and reaching both poles twice.
When Leifur climbed the north side of Mt. Everest, 66°North created an exclusive down overall for him, featuring a baffle construction. This is the same insulation technology used in the Tindur down jacket, which is now presented in an updated version to celebrate the brand’s 100th anniversary.
The Snæfell Shell Jacket, 100th Anniversary Edition, is available now for £475 GBP for both men’s and women’s. The Tindur Short Down Jacket, 100th Anniversary Edition, is cut 12.5cm shorter than the original Tindur for everyday versatility, it is crafted from WINDSTOPPER® fabric by GORE-TEX LABS® and insulated with 800-fill white duck down, in Brown Birch Bolete, priced at £916 GBP. Both are available at 66north.com and in select 66°North stores.
