Born Slippy launches €1,295 made-to-measure APTUS 1.0 wetsuit

Born Slippy has launched the APTUS 1.0, a €1,295 made-to-measure wetsuit developed with big-wave surfer Andrew “Cotty” Cotton and limited to 1,000 numbered examples.

The suit is cut from a 26-point body profile and uses Japanese Yamamoto #40 and #39 limestone neoprene. Born Slippy says the torso panels use a micro-chamber thermal structure designed to provide insulation without relying on a conventional bulky fleece lining.

Other construction details include glued and blindstitched triple-taped seams, an upper-torso pattern intended to support paddling movement, reinforced knee panels and drainage at the ankle.

Testing at Croyde Bay and Nazaré

Prototype testing began at Croyde Bay in Devon and continued at Nazaré in Portugal, with Cotton providing product feedback. The company offers 3/2mm, 4/3mm and 5/4mm thicknesses and chest-zip, U-zip or zipless entry options.

Cotton said: “I’ve surfed some of the biggest waves on the planet and worn some of the best equipment ever made. Born Slippy is the wetsuit I choose to wear now. The custom fit is incredible, the micro-chamber thermal insulation is next level, and the Yamamoto neoprene feels like cashmere against your skin. It’s performance without compromise.”

Each APTUS 1.0 carries a serial number and security code linked to a Digital Product Passport covering the order, specification, materials, care, warranty and proof of authenticity. The passport can transfer with the suit if it is sold.

Born Slippy says every measurement profile is checked before production, with an estimated production and delivery time of four to eight weeks after measurements and specifications are confirmed. Production is capped at 1,000 suits worldwide.
