Rite in the Rain keeps field notes part of the outdoor kit

A notebook has a different role from a phone when a trip involves observations, measurements or a written log. Rite in the Rain focuses on keeping that paper-based routine usable outdoors, with water-resistant writing products and accessories for field use.

The brand’s Burton McCall profile describes paper designed to shed water, with applications for outdoor professionals and people pursuing hobbies outside. It is a focused proposition: equipment for recording information in conditions that can be difficult for ordinary stationery.

Match the paper with the writing tool

The choice of pen or pencil is part of the system. In its official guidance, Rite in the Rain says a standard pencil or an all-weather pen can be used on wet or dry paper.

The same guidance distinguishes those tools from ordinary ballpoint pens and permanent markers, which are intended to be used when the paper is dry. It advises against gel pens, highlighters and fountain pens. That is a useful detail for anyone buying a notebook and assuming every writing instrument will behave in the same way.

The company’s All-Weather Pocket Pen is one compact option. The manufacturer specifies writing on wet paper and upside down, with a cap that fits onto the end to form a longer barrel.

Choose a format for the way notes are taken

The wider collection includes top-bound and side-bound notebooks, loose sheets, pens, pencils and protective covers. That breadth makes format a practical part of the selection, alongside the writing surface itself.

A pocket notebook suits brief entries made while moving between locations. A larger page offers more room for a sketch, table or extended observation. For a retailer, showing the open notebook alongside its cover and writing tool can explain the complete arrangement.
