Montane launches donation point to help raise funds to preserve the Lake District

Montane is continuing its long-term commitment to Fix the Fells, by launching a dedicated donation point on its website to raise vital funds to help combat path erosion in the Lake District National Park.

Fix the Fells is a volunteer-led project that helps repair and maintain the upland paths across 410 miles of the Lake District from erosion, caused by people, severe weather conditions, and climate change. The organisation works tirelessly to reduce erosion scars and protect the ecology and archaeological heritage of the UNESCO World Heritage site.

Montane has worked with the organisation for several years, and in July 2023 a team of volunteers from the outdoor brand met the Fix the Fells team at Helm Crag in Grasmere to get involved in helping to fix paths and tackle erosion head-on.

Alongside its volunteering efforts, Montane has also launched a dedicated donation point, allowing customers to have the option to donate an amount of their choice to Fix the Fells when purchasing from the brand’s website.

Matthew Hickman, Montane’s Marketing Director, said, “The Lake District is a special place for so many and after walking and running there for many years, it felt extremely rewarding to give back and help correct some of the paths that we have created.

“We have a long-standing relationship with the Fix the Fells team, and we hope that with the introduction of this donation point, we can expose their great work to more people and raise funds so they can continue to maintain our landscapes for everyone to enjoy.”

Fix the Fells is a partnership programme between the Lake District National Park, National Trust, Natural England, Lake District Foundation, Friends of the Lake District, and Cumbria County Council. Fix the Fells is one of the several initiatives across the globe that are supported by Montane as part of its commitment to help protect and preserve wild landscapes so they can continue to be enjoyed for future generations.

Steve Tonkin, Fix the Fells Fundraiser (Lake District Foundation), said: “It’s truly humbling the support Montane has given us over the years and thank you to everyone in the team as without their support, our rangers and volunteers could not look after the 410 miles of upland paths we oversee.”
