BioLite connects lighting, power and cooking around camp

A headtorch, a lantern and a stove solve different campsite problems, but they sit within the same wider question: how to keep useful energy close at hand. BioLite brings those categories together in a range spanning portable lighting, charging and outdoor cooking.

Burton McCall’s BioLite profile groups the brand around cooking, charging and lighting away from the electricity grid. Its products range from equipment worn on the move to items intended to stay at camp.

Light for moving and staying put

The Range 500 headlamp is one example of the personal-lighting side. BioLite lists a maximum output of 500 lumens, white and red lighting modes, USB-C charging and a tilting lamp unit. The manufacturer gives it an IP67 water-resistance rating.

The AlpenGlow 500 lantern takes a different approach. Its modes include warm and cool white light as well as colour settings, with a stated maximum output of 500 lumens. A rechargeable battery and USB-A output allow it to provide light and charging from one unit. Outdoor Insight has also covered the AlpenGlow 500.

The contrast is useful when comparing equipment. A headtorch puts light where the wearer looks, while a lantern provides shared illumination around a table or campsite. Matching the format to the task is as relevant as comparing the headline output.

Cooking with an energy link

BioLite’s CampStove 2+ combines a biomass-burning stove with a thermoelectric generator. According to the manufacturer, heat is converted into electricity to power the stove’s fan, with surplus energy stored in an internal battery.

The design includes four fan speeds and a USB output. It is a distinctive example of the brand’s attempt to connect familiar camp functions within a single product.

For retailers and campers comparing outdoor equipment, BioLite’s range can be understood by the job each item performs: personal light, shared light, stored power or cooking. That keeps the focus on how the equipment will be used.
