1000 Mile approaches walking socks through a choice of constructions, with single and double layer designs across its outdoor range. The brand, featured in Burton McCall’s Outdoor & Sports portfolio, gives walkers options that differ in cushioning, yarn blend and height.
Its best-known idea is the double layer sock. According to 1000 Mile’s explanation of the design, the inner layer moves with the foot while the outer layer moves with the shoe. The construction is intended to reduce rubbing against the skin.
Two layers, several walking options
The Fusion Double Layer Walking Sock shows how that approach combines with cushioning. It has additional padding at the heel, toe and Achilles area, with a mid-calf length intended for higher walking footwear.
The listed outer fabric contains merino wool, nylon, cotton and elastane, while the inner layer uses Tactel. That combination gives this model a different construction from the single layer socks elsewhere in the collection. It also makes the product specification a more useful starting point than colour alone when comparing options.
1000 Mile’s double layer guarantee has conditions attached, including care and proof-of-purchase requirements. It applies to qualifying double layer socks, so should not be read as a guarantee covering every sock carrying the brand name.
A range beyond one sock design
The brand’s walking collection also lists Lightweight Double Layer, Approach Repreve and Trek Repreve Single Layer models. Running, trail running and other sports sit alongside walking in the wider offer.
For outdoor retailers, those distinctions provide a straightforward way to explain the range: start with the activity and footwear, then compare length, padding and construction. For walkers assembling their outdoor kit, socks deserve the same attention to fit as the boots or shoes they will be worn with.
