Team Montane athlete set to represent GB in Paraclimbing World Cup

Paraclimber and #TeamMontane athlete, Abbie Robinson, will be heading to the Paraclimbing World Cup this month as she looks to bring home silverware for Team GB.

The two-day event, held on Monday 12th and Tuesday 13th June, is organised by The International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC), and will take place in Innsbruck, Austria. Qualifications and Speed European Cup Finals will be held on Monday before the Paraclimbing Finals commence the following day.

Abbie, a recently inducted #TeamMontane athlete, has been climbing for over ten years, first beginning indoor climbing at the age of 13. Four years later at age 17, she was diagnosed with Stargardt Macular Dystrophy and was registered legally blind. It was then that she was introduced to the world of Paraclimbing and quickly went on to join the GB Paraclimbing Team, with seven international gold medals secured to date, including three consecutive world championship titles.

Speaking ahead of the event, Abbie commented: “I’m feeling really strong coming into my first world cup of the 2023 season in Innsbruck, Austria. Innsbruck is one of my favourite venues; the city is gorgeous, the climbing is incredible and the crowd are always really psyched. I’ve been training hard over the winter months and, despite a couple of injuries at the beginning of the year, I’m feeling mentally and physically stronger than ever. I’m looking forward to kicking off my competition season with the support of Montane, it’s gearing up to be an exciting season with a great team, so watch this space!”

Montane’s Marketing Executive, Athlete and Event Lead, Hannah Foster, commented: “At Montane we work with some of the best athletes in the world, and it’s amazing to see Abbie competing at the highest level, on one of the biggest stages imaginable and representing her country. Our team cannot wait to cheer her on, and we would like to wish her the best of luck. We have no doubt that she will do herself proud.”

The event is the second Paraclimbing World Cup of the 2023 season, after the first took place in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, on the 16th and 17th May.

Through its #TeamMontane programme, Montane work with some of the world’s leading athletes and outdoor professionals, ranging from ultra-endurance runners to high-altitude mountaineers and expert climbers, and helps them to successfully complete their challenges and go Further. Faster.
