Solex builds sun protection around an applicator for active days

Solex takes a familiar outdoor product and gives the application method as much attention as the contents. Its Sports Applicator pairs sunscreen with a shaped foam head, intended to let people apply it without spreading the product with their hands.

Burton McCall’s Solex profile positions the British brand around active outdoor use, including hiking, cycling, camping and field sports. The distributor lists SPF30 and SPF50 formulations alongside the applicator’s built-in mirror.

A bottle designed around handling

On its official product page, Solex describes a saddle-shaped foam surface, with curved areas for larger parts of the body and raised sections for more precise application. The mirror sits in the cap, and an attachment cord gives the bottle a separate carrying or hanging point.

The design responds to a practical concern raised by the brand: people taking part in sport may be reluctant to interrupt an activity if applying sunscreen leaves product on their hands. Solex’s approach places the applicator on the bottle so those two parts of the process stay together.

For a customer inspecting the product, the useful details are straightforward: the shape of the applicator, the way the cap fits and how the bottle will be kept accessible during a day outside.

A small accessory with a clear role

The format gives outdoor retailers a product that can be demonstrated through its construction. It also gives customers a reason to compare the handling of a bottle alongside the information on its label, rather than choosing solely by the packaging colour.

The applicator does not change the need to follow the sunscreen’s directions for application and reapplication. Its contribution is to the way the product is carried and used, with the foam head, cap mirror and cord assembled into one unit.

As part of the broader outdoor accessories mix, Solex offers a focused example of design addressing an everyday task on active days.
