British mountain brand Rab has unveiled its AW27 Altitude collection, an extreme insulation system developed for high-altitude use and including the brand’s first women-specific high-altitude suit.
Rab developed the collection with mountaineers Jon Gupta and Adriana Brownlee and tested it in a cold chamber at the University of Nottingham.
8000 system
The 8000 system comprises the 8000 Suit, 8000 Hoody and 8000 Bib in men’s and women’s fits. The products combine 900FP European goose down with body-mapped PrimaLoft Gold Insulation with Cross Core Technology, Rab’s Thermo-Ionic Lining Technology (TILT) and L.O.F.T. 3D construction.
The women’s 8000 Suit uses a women-specific fit, insulation mapping and feature set. Rab says the collection is intended for the most demanding high-altitude conditions.
L.O.F.T. 3D construction, first developed for Rab sleeping bags, has been transferred into apparel. Its twisted-helix and trapezoidal baffle structure is designed to control down and reduce cold spots while maintaining loft.
Mythic and Generator additions
The AW27 range also includes the Mythic Ultra Hoody, the Mythic G Hoody and additions to the Generator synthetic-insulation range.
Tim Fish, Rab’s product director, said: “The Altitude collection represents the most demanding environment we can put our products through – and that’s exactly why it matters so much to us. When you develop for 8,000 metres, every gram, every baffle, every material choice is scrutinised at a level that simply doesn’t exist elsewhere. Those learnings don’t stay at the summit. They find their way into everything we make, making the whole range better. That’s the real value of the Altitude programme.”
The Rab AW27 Altitude collection is due to be available from September 2027.
