The Outward Bound Trust celebrates their 80th birthday!

This week, Vango’s friends The Outward Bound Trust celebrated the 80th anniversary of their first expedition. In 1941, they lead their first course which aimed to teach young men confidence, tenacity and perseverance during the period of World War Two. By 1951, they initiated their first all woman’s Outward Bound course at Eskdale, on the West Coast of Cumbria.

Today, Outward Bound continues to facilitate outdoor experiences for children, and young people to help them face challenges head-on, benefit mental health and create a sense of community. We are delighted to partner with the charity through a donation of 170 pairs of walking boots to help get as many young people as possible into the outdoors.

Martin Davidson, Director of Scotland & Innovation for The Outward Bound Trust had this to say…

“I am delighted that Vango are initiating their support of The Outward Bound Trust with a generous donation of 170 pairs of outdoor footwear.  Adventure is at the heart of every Outward Bound course, and no more so, than through the overnight expedition nearly every participant completes.  The donation will help ensure that all course participants, regardless of their background, can be fully equipped for a true wilderness experience in the Highlands of Scotland.  Ensuring equity of access to the benefits of Outward Bound is core to our values, and it is through the amazing support of corporate partners like Vango that make this possible.”
