Inselberg: The New Zealand mountaineering brand tested on Everest
To ensure top-tier quality, Inselberg partnered with the “Climbing The Seven Summits” team, experts in guiding mountaineers on ascents of the world’s highest peaks

A new mountaineering brand, Inselberg, which has been tested on the extremes of Mt Everest is launching.
Inselberg is a technical outerwear brand founded by New Zealand’s Jarlath Anderson and Calvin Lee. Anderson and Lee, who both grew up in New Zealand, have backgrounds in international apparel and have spent the last three years developing the debut line of Inselberg gear, with the stock described as the ultimate performance wear for anyone on mountain.
“It’s been a huge amount of work to get to this point and I’m thrilled to be officially launching Inselberg,” said Anderson.
“These products are a labour of love. For the last three years we’ve been carrying out meticulous research and development and we’re now at the point where we’re ready to launch our functional and technical mountaineering gear.
“While many brands are shifting toward fashion, we’ve maintained a focus on pure technical performance, and these products are designed for anyone who demands reliability and peak performance in extreme environments.”
To ensure top-tier quality, Inselberg partnered with the “Climbing The Seven Summits” team, experts in guiding mountaineers on ascents of the world’s highest peaks.
The team tested Inselberg products on Everest and was so impressed they’ve now partnered with Inselberg and will wear their apparel on future expeditions. Closer to home they’ve also partnered with Aoraki Mount Cook Alpine Rescue Team.
“The Climbing the Seven Summits team have been instrumental in helping us to create products which meet the exact needs of mountaineers.
“We listened to their feedback and have created practical, durable products which are built to last a lifetime. It’s been amazing to see how much they enjoy the products and to watch them in use on Everest. Knowing that our gear is improving their lives is awesome, we’re really pleased it’s also being used on Aoraki Mt Cook and we’re excited to bring that quality to the general public.”
Inselberg’s products underwent a rigorous design process, with each piece being built, dismantled, and rebuilt to ensure durability and repairability. The brand sources fabrics from Japan, Taiwan, and France, working with specialized suppliers like SGF and Karian, renowned for their work with brands such as Arcteryx, Norrona, and Burton AK.
Anderson has a background in apparel, having pioneered the expansion of Asia Pacific for Stance—one of the world’s biggest sock brands, where he was General Manager of Greater China. When he decided to create his own brand he thought back on his childhood, climbing mountains around the country with his father. While Lee, bringing 20 years of experiential brand strategy experience, assisting brands, from Puma, Dita, Supreme, Jansport, etc, enter and grow across the Asia Pacific markets.
“My father was a really keen mountaineer,” said Anderson. “He instilled a real love of climbing in me so when I made the decision to launch my own brand I wanted to focus on what I know and what I’m passionate about.”
He says his time at Stance taught him how to grow a brand internationally and has inspired him to think globally.
“While Inselberg is a proudly New Zealand brand, we’re on a global mission. As of today, we’re in stores in New Zealand and Asia, with our full range available online, and soon to be in stores in the UK, the US and Europe.
“We’re excited to be taking the best of New Zealand to the world and are looking forward to a big future for Inselberg.”
