While many of us may still be planning Christmas, the New Year and all the opportunities that a fresh start in 2026 brings is less than two weeks away!
For those looking to focus on their own health and wellbeing while making a positive difference to their community, Tŷ Hafan Children’s Hospice has on offer a range of feel-good physical fundraising challenges.
Starting on January 1 and taking place throughout the whole month, Tŷ Hafan’s Jump Into January Challenge is all about getting you moving. You can do it in your own time, wherever is convenient for you. This challenge is free to enter. Your challenge will be simply to move 31 miles throughout the whole month and raise a minimum of £50 in sponsorship.
For those looking for companionship and a moderate physical challenge, Ramble to the Rugby offers participants the chance to walk the Taff Trail from Caerphilly to Cardiff on Saturday 7th February. The 10-mile walk is estimated to take between four and five hours. Additionally, everyone will enjoy a free curry and a drink while watching Wales v England Six Nations rugby match together in Callaghans, Cardiff, at the end of the walk. Moreover, a commitment to raise a minimum of £100 per person is asked.
For people looking for a ‘mind over matter’ challenge, Cardiff Castle will provide the atmospheric backdrop to Tŷ Hafan’s Firewalk on Sunday 29th March. There, you’ll be coached to face your fears so you can walk 5 metres over 800 degree burning wood embers! Participants just need to commit to raising a minimum of £150 for the charity.
For those who want to – literally – go that little bit further, the Brecon Carreg Porthcawl 10K – will take place on Sunday 5th July. This beautiful seaside course is ideal for first-time 10kers and experienced runners alike. Tŷ Hafan is lead charity partner for this event. There are 250 spaces available with discounted entry for runners who pledge to raise a minimum of £150 for the charity.
Finally for those seeking travel and adventure then Tŷ Hafan’s Machu Picchu Trek 2027 from Friday 30th April to Monday 10th May 2027 offers a trip of a lifetime experience.
By committing to raise a minimum of £5,500 each, Tŷ Hafan supporters will get the chance to undertake one of the top 25 treks in the world. This trek includes Andean peaks, epic Peruvian landscapes and misty cloud forests. It culminates in a visit to the ancient city of Machu Picchu. Just 13 places remain for this trip and Tŷ Hafan events team will be holding an open evening on Thursday 12th February at 6pm at Tiny Rebel, Cardiff.
James Davies-Hale, Head of Fundraising for Tŷ Hafan, said: “The New Year is a time for us all to put our best foot forward. Whatever your situation or your interests, Tŷ Hafan has fundraising challenges with a fabulous feelgood factor for you.
“No parent ever imagines that their precious child will have a short life. Sadly, this is the reality facing thousands of families in Wales.
“Right now, we are only supporting 1 in 10 families who have a child whose life will be short. This means that thousands of families in Wales live their child’s short life alone and isolated.
“We can’t stop seriously unwell children dying but, with your help, we can walk alongside every family who needs us.
“Imagine a Wales where every child has access to the services they need. Also, where families have a choice about the care and support they receive.
“By supporting Tŷ Hafan, you’ll make sure that no family lives their child’s short life alone.”
