After receiving hundreds of submissions, theories, maps, diagrams and determined attempts from adventurers around the world, Columbia Sportswear is officially closing the book on Expedition Impossible. No one found the edge of the Earth. Therefore, Columbia gets to keep the keys to the company.
To mark the campaign’s conclusion, Columbia Sportswear CEO Tim Boyle released a final video. In the video, he reflects on the journey, celebrates the creativity of participants, does some giveaways, and officially calls off the search.
“No one found the edge of the Earth, and I’m so relieved we get to keep the company,” said Tim Boyle, CEO of Columbia Sportswear. “The Expedition Impossible campaign really captured the adventurous spirit of Columbia. Many tried. Many failed. We appreciate the effort. I’m grateful to the flat earth community for providing us with so many interesting submissions, and very much looking forward to getting back to work now that the campaign is officially closed. You can stop emailing us now.”
The campaign’s impact extended beyond consumers, becoming the most awarded campaign at the 2026 Cannes Lions Festival. It has since become the most awarded campaign in Columbia Sportswear’s history. Additionally, the campaign earned top honours at the Clios, taking home the Grand Clio Award.
The campaign’s success marks another milestone for Engineered for Whatever. This is Columbia’s boldest brand platform in more than a decade. The platform launched exactly one year ago, on August 4, 2025. Since then, it has reintroduced Columbia’s signature humour, irreverence and confidence to a new generation of consumers. It has also demonstrated the durability and innovation behind its products…and there’s still more to come.
*The company refers to ‘The Company, LLC’ with assets which are valued at $100,000. “The Edge of the Earth” is a visible, physical end to the planet Earth. We’re talking infinite sheer drop, abyssal void, clouds cascading into infinity. What is not “The Edge of the Earth”: A clifftop in Seattle. A cul-de-sac in Kansas. Or your buddy Dave legally changing his name to “The Edge.”
