Expedition Down Jacket Black Edition

Fjällräven launches limited run of the Black Edition: A tribute to the uncompromising winter darkness of the Scandinavian north. Fjällräven, the Swedish outdoor clothing and equipment company, is introducing the Expedition Black Edition — a limited run of 900 all-black versions of its iconic 1974 Expedition Down Jacket. This new generation in the Expedition series is a tribute to the darkest winter nights of the Scandinavian north, where Fjällräven founder Åke Nordin decided to never feel cold again.

On an unbearably cold winters night back in the early 70s

Fjällräven’s founder, Åke Nordin, sought shelter in a bivouac, basically a pit he dug in the snow, on the barren mountain plateau of Abisko in Sweden’s far north. Bitter cold was Åke’s least favourite aspect of outdoor life so he began wondering if perhaps he could invent a jacket that was impossible to feel cold in. The result was the Fjällräven Expedition Down Jacket, made from two down jackets sewn together to minimise heat loss. The Expedition Down Black Edition is a direct descendant of the legendary jacket from 1974. Staying true to the original design principles and with the same clear purpose of keeping you warm on all your winter adventures. Never feel cold again.
