Extreme Motus All-Terrain Wheelchairs Now Available at All Five Utah National Parks

All-terrain wheelchairs are now available at Zion, Bryce Canyon, Arches, Canyonlands and Capitol Reef national parks in Utah, according to an announcement from Extreme Motus and the National Park Service.

The chairs, developed by Utah-based Extreme Motus, feature lightweight aluminium frames and large low-pressure tyres to help a companion or caregiver move a passenger across certain unpaved routes. Each park has at least one chair available free of charge, although visitors should check availability, eligible trails and booking procedures with the relevant park before travelling.

Expanding access to nature

Extreme Motus chief executive Michael Painter said the initiative offers more families opportunities to explore outdoor landscapes together. The project has involved the National Park Service, Zion Forever Project, Friends of Arches and Canyonlands Parks, Outdoor Access Project and other supporters.

The milestone demonstrates the potential for adaptive equipment and public-private partnerships to make outdoor recreation more inclusive. The wheelchairs are non-motorised and require assistance; they do not make every trail accessible.

Visitors can check requirements with the individual park via the National Park Service. Further product information is available from Extreme Motus.
