Royal Navy and OMM develop connection

OMM has announced an important step in the ever-closer ties with UK Armed Forces by supporting the Royal Navy & Royal Marines Orienteering Squad.

At the recent Orienteering Championships in the Mendip Hills, OMM and the Royal Navy agreed to work together to promote OMM and Royal Navy Orienteering, a key component of the relationship is the Royal Navy branded Squad kit centred around OMM’s Halo Jacket, Pace Pant & Bearing Tee.

OMM, the mountain running clothing & equipment brand, has a long history with the Military forces. OMM’s namesake event the Original Mountain Marathon has been used as a training exercise for military personnel for 55 years due to nature as a test of an individual’s competence in the mountains.

OMM Director Alistaire MacGregor said. “We’re really pleased to develop our support of the Armed Forces. Our clothing is ideal for the mud, brush & brambles the orienteering teams have to bash through, and we hope the new kit helps the team achieve its goals.” 

Last weekend saw the team turn out in their new race kit to compete in the inter services championships against the Army & Royal Air Force teams at the Mendip Hills event with four Royal Navy Orienteers selected for the UK Armed Forces Squad.

Graeme Little OBE, the President of Royal Navy and Royal Marines Orienteering, said “I am delighted that the Royal Navy has signed the agreement with OMM, not only does it reinforce the very strong links between OMM and the Royal Navy and Royal Marines, it also demonstrates the commitment of OMM to support Royal Navy and Royal Marine Orienteers. There are real synergies between OMM and Royal Navy Orienteering that we can build on to the mutual benefit of us both.”

OMM wished the Royal Navy & Royal Marine orienteers the best of luck representing the UK Armed Forces at the British Universities Orienteering Championships in March.
