LOWA strengthens partnership with Brecon Mountain Rescue as headline sponsor of Beat the Beacons

LOWA has announced that it will continue its partnership with Brecon Mountain Rescue and sponsor the forthcoming Beat the Beacons (BEAT) event. Taking place on the 27th September, this annual fundraising challenge is a vital source of support for the volunteer-run rescue team, which provides life-saving assistance across the Brecon Beacons (Bannau Brycheiniog) and beyond. As the main sponsor, LOWA aims to boost awareness of the work being done by the Brecon Mountain Rescue team and to inspire more members of the outdoor community to do their part to support it.

Suitable for outdoor enthusiasts at most experience levels, Beat the Beacons offers three routes for participants to choose between: the Endurance, the Adventure and the Taster routes. For less experienced walkers, the 10-mile Taster route offers a rewarding day in the outdoors without the tougher elevation of the longer options. The 15-mile Adventure route includes more ascent, while the 22-mile Endurance route offers a full-on mountain challenge, taking in the highest points of the Bannau Brycheiniog region. All three are supported by Brecon Mountain Rescue and there is the option to join guided groups on the Adventure route. Refreshments are served mid-way on the longer hikes.

With more than 100 years of experience in designing premium mountain and hillwalking footwear, LOWA is a natural partner for Brecon Mountain Rescue and the BEAT event. Choosing the right footwear is a crucial part of mountain safety, and through its support of this event, LOWA hopes to highlight the importance of preparation and the critical role that rescue teams play in keeping outdoor adventurers safe.

Tim Kington, General Manager at LOWA UK, commented: “We’re very pleased to continue our partnership with the Brecon Mountain Rescue team and to support the Beat the Beacons event. Every penny raised goes towards directly funding the vital work they do. We hope that our community will come along for a great day in the hills and help us support and raise awareness for this critical emergency service.”

Wendy Walton from Brecon Mountain Rescue added: “It is a huge boost to partner with LOWA for Beat the Beacons and we’re so grateful for their ongoing support.  Our 24/7, 365-day emergency service costs around £65,000 a year to run. By joining BEAT and supporting the work we do, you can help us keep offering this essential resource.”
