The North Face and Transgrancanaria announce new partnership

The North Face has been confirmed as the naming sponsor of the prestigious trail running race, Transgrancanaria. The partnership solidifies a huge step towards the race’s goal as one of Spain’s major sporting events as the global outdoor brand supports the growth over the next three years.

The partnership is a natural fit for two organizations dedicated to pushing the boundaries of outdoor performance and supporting the community. The North Face continues to bring innovative trail products to market, developed with their leading athlete team, following their expedition tested, race proven approach.

The North Face has created one of the best teams of trail running athletes, including four-time winner of The North Face Transgrancanaria, Pau Capell; Brazilian athlete Fernanda Maciel, who also triumphed on the island in 2012. This team will continue to grow alongside the partnership, opening up the opportunity for course records and an even more competitive field.

As for Transgrancanaria, next year marks its 25th edition as the most significant winter event worldwide. Born in October 2003, the trail running race organized by Arista Eventos quickly became one of the most internationally renowned sports events in the islands with the support of The North Face. The partnership between the two brands in 2010 gave a boost to the event, which grew to become a benchmark trail running competition worldwide.

Michiel Cauwelier, VP Marketing, The North Face EMEA: “We’re delighted to be back supporting the prestigious Transgrancanaria race across all distances, aligning perfectly with our commitment to the advancement and visibility of trail running. Many of our athletes have achieved incredible performances over the years, and we’re looking forward to watching this continue.”

Fernando González, CEO of Arista Eventos: “We are really proud to bring back The North Face as the title sponsor of Transgrancanaria. We have a really happy memory of the former sponsorship and I believe that reaching a new agreement with them means that we’ve both continued with the good work and with stable relations during the years, with both companies betting to boost trail running and outdoor sports.

Wendy Cruz, Marketing Manager in Transgrancanaria: “This is not only big news for our race, but also for the island. Having such an important brand sponsoring an international event in Gran Canaria will multiply the promotion of our land, which is one of the main goals of our team”.

This partnership is the beginning of a new era for The North Face Transgrancanaria, which already opened the registration period on July, 12th. The next edition will have a five day schedule with six races: Classic, 126 kilometers; Advanced, 84 kilometers; Marathon, 46 kilometers; Starter, 21 kilometers; Promo and Family, 12 kilometers; and the Vertical Kilometer El Gigante.

The North Face Transgrancanaria is sponsored by institutions such as the Cabildo de Gran Canaria through Turismo de Gran Canaria and Gran Canaria Isla Europea del Deporte, the Government of the Canary Islands through Islas Canarias Latitud de Vida, Maspalomas Costa Canaria, the Municipal Sports Institute of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and the City Council of Tejeda. Additionally, it receives support from companies like The North Face, Fred. Olsen Express, Hospitales Universitarios San Roque, Expomeloneras, 226ERS, and Sonocom Audiovisuales.
