An army marches on its stomach it’s said. However, a few pairs of the Thorlos Men’s Hiking Moderate Cushion Crew Socks would also be a big help.
I was looking forward to trying out these socks – I’d heard a lot about them but had never slipped on a pair before.
Thorlos are a family-owned technical performance sock company for women, men and kids from the United States.
They claim to be the caretakers of the world’s feet and after a thorough testing I’m inclined to agree with them!
Let’s start with materials and then go from there.
The socks are made from THORLON and a Merino Wool/Silk blend and comprised of 35% Merino Wool, 18% hollow-core polyester, 16% nylon, 14% THORLON acrylic, 12% silk and 5% elastic.
If you haven’t heard of THORLON it’s Thorlos’ trademark acrylic yarn which aids the superior cushioning.
I used these socks on a number of day hikes – not extreme but challenging all the same. I was impressed with the comfort and protection they provided. It hasn’t gotten cold yet and with the weather still warm you can work up a good sweat. However, the Thorlos socks had excellent moisture wicking and were odour resistant – which my partner found a great joy!
The socks are very comfortable and have excellent padding in the heel and for the balls of the feet. There was no chaffing and not a hint of blisters – probably down to the fact that they have minimal stitching, no seams in the toe area or and all the other seams are hidden or really smooth.
After using these socks for a while I highly recommend them if you are going to be on your feet all day. I didn’t suffer any discomfort or aches and their sturdy construction holds up well to numerous hikes – giving you long-lasting comfort.
A great pair of socks.
